I’m not usually one for writing a review as it always seems that other people have already said what I would have said. However, based on reviews I have purchased many Galibier items, all superb, so I feel I must comment on this Lautaret Insulated Jacket as there are not many reviews and I feel people may be missing out on an excellent jacket. With the change to more autumnal weather and cool early mornings and then the temperature rising maybe by 10-12°C in the sun I decided to try this insulated jacket rather than my usual combo of a windproof l/s jersey and mid layer over my base layer. It was quite cool at 4°C so I initially wore a light windproof over the Lautaret jacket and my usual standard weight base layer underneath. I also had summer weight arm warmers on as I suffer from cold arms. Half an hour up the road and the sun was giving that first warming effect so the windproof came off. For the next 3½ hours the jacket was awesome at keeping me feeling just right; the ‘feels like’ temperature was hovering around 10°C in the tree lined shade rising to 15°C in the direct sunlight, and there was a cool sea breeze riding along the coast. Zip came down a bit in the direct sunlight and the high collar was nice in the cool breeze. I kept the light arm warmers on but I’m guessing most people would be fine with just the jacket as the arm roubaix fabric is double layer. Once home I did the usual feel around on the inside of the jacket for moisture; none and it didn’t even feel damp; my base layer was dry. I was amazed. Rear pockets are a good size to get your gloved hands into for snacks and chest pocket is neat for small items like bank card, key etc; double zip is useful for access to inside pockets if wearing a jersey underneath. For me this is the perfect cooler weather jacket with a wide usable temperature range and only needing a base layer underneath; for autumn weather, spring weather, in fact the weather we have in the British Isles for a lot of the year. Add in a windproof / light jersey / waterproof and all conditions are covered. This jacket is so good I have ordered another!!
