Product Info A drawbar is a threaded rod used on a lathe to secure tool holders (like Elio-DR drive centers, Jacobs chuck, etc) within the spindle by pulling them up against the spindle’s internal taper. It functions as a clamping mechanism, applying force to hold the tool and resist the forces of cutting. The Drawbar Kit for Elio-DR holds the Elio drive securely in the headstock with out the tailstock support. It allows the use of the Elio-DR drive as a faceplate since the tailstock would not be necessary. Use the Drawbar with the Elio drive or any other work holding device with the correct threads. The drawbar kit for Elio-DR is 1/4”-20 threaded rod covered with LLDPE tubing that has superb stress-crack resistance and remains flexible and durable in a temperature range between –103°F to 120°F, which means it will withstand any shop environment. The tubing is in place to protect the inside of the hollow lathe headstock spindle. Both the rod and tubing can be cut to custom lengths for any lathe with a minimum of 1/2” diameter through bore. The cone helps center the rod in the spindle to reduce rotational whipping. The two wing knobs are used for locking together to screw the threaded rod in and out of the Elio-DR threads.
