Product Info The Robust 1-1/4″ diameter spindle roughing gouge has a 45 degree grind and polished flute. Like our all our gouges, it is milled from solid High Speed Steel and give our proprietary Nitriding treatment. The shank is turned to 5/8″ diameter. Spindle roughing gouges are for turning spindles, not bowls ! The 12″ handle is premium hard maple with polyurethane finish and stainless steel ferrule. Also available unhandled. Robust woodturning tools are manufactured by Robust from premium HSS (high speed steel) that has been treated with our proprietary Nitriding process. Nitriding is not a coating or plating, but a diffusion wherein extra carbon and nitrogen are added to the base metal. This zone is up to .002″ deep.
